John Colton has almost 40 years of experience handling a broad and diverse range of complex business and commercial litigation matters, real estate, estate and probate and family law. His commercial litigation practice also extends to real estate and landlord-tenant disputes, trusts and estates controversies and contract disputes. His litigation experience in conjunction with his accounting background allows him to counsel clients navigating difficult and emotional experiences during complex divorce proceedings. Due to his extensive litigation experience, John also provides counsel to clients regarding a broad scope of corporate law matters, including formation of business entities, business sales and acquisitions. His practice also includes real estate transactions, having handled hundreds of real estate closings, purchase and sale agreements, and title insurance matters.
John was born in New York City, New York in 1959. He received his B.S. in Accounting from Florida State University in 1980, and his J.D. from the University of Florida in 1983. He was admitted to the Florida Bar in 1983 and is also admitted to the United States District Court for the Middle District of Florida. He is an active member of the Florida Bar and the Sarasota County Bar Association.
A long-time resident of Sarasota, John is committed to giving back to the community and participates in charities providing Christmas gifts to low-income families and turkeys to needy families at Thanksgiving. John is a principal of the firm.
